Senior Power Systems Engineer – Generator Sets & Grid Integration
On land. At sea.

Bergen Engines is executing a significant industrial scale-up, with growing demand for complete power plants in land-based generation and marine applications. As the energy transition reshapes how power is produced and connected, the electrical design of each generator set solution is becoming as decisive as the engine itself.
On behalf of Bergen Engines, we are looking for an experienced power systems engineer to take technical ownership of the electrical side of these solutions, from early system studies through to grid compliance and commissioning.
This position sits at the intersection of power system analysis, protection, and product development. You will work closely with engine, control, and mechanical specialists in Bergen, and with electrical engineering colleagues across the Bergen Engines group worldwide.
If you have built your expertise in power system studies, protection, or generator and switchgear engineering, and want to apply it to products that operate in critical installations worldwide, this could be the next step in your career.
What You Will Be Working On
Lead modelling and simulation of power generation and transmission systems, including transient stability analysis and relay coordination studies.
Define and verify protection settings for generators, transformers, feeders, and busbars, as well as AVR and governor parameters.
Select and size key electrical components such as generators, transformers, switchgear, energy storage, converters, and VAR compensation, for both standard and bespoke projects.
Ensure grid code compliance for land-based power plants and act as the technical counterpart to customers and grid operators on electrical matters.
Develop solutions for island-mode (microgrid) and grid-connected operation, including synchronisation and load sharing between generator sets.
Contribute to the strategic development of competence and product offerings as power generation shifts towards hybrid and lower-emission solutions.
Support FAT, SAT, commissioning, and troubleshooting of delivered installations.
What We Are Looking For
MSc or BSc in Electrical Power Engineering or a related discipline.
Several years of professional experience with power system analysis, protection, or electrical design of power generation and distribution systems.
Hands-on experience with protection principles and relay configuration.
Working knowledge of relevant standards and grid codes (IEC, IEEE, DNV, ENTSO-E, local TSO requirements).
Experience with MATLAB/Simulink or similar tools.
Experience with excitation systems, governor control, or power management systems (PMS) is a strong advantage.
Experience with battery energy storage (BESS), power converters, or microgrid control is an advantage.
Background from power generation, marine, offshore, utilities, renewables, or industrial power systems.
Fluency in English and one of the Scandinavian languages.
Who You Are
You are the person colleagues turn to when a power system behaves unexpectedly. You understand the physics behind the numbers, you are comfortable defending your technical recommendations to customers and authorities, and you take ownership of a solution from concept to commissioning. You work independently, communicate clearly, and enjoy sharing your knowledge with others.
What You Can Expect
A key technical role with real influence on product performance, reliability, and competitiveness.
Complex engineering challenges involving large-scale power generation equipment in demanding environments worldwide.
A highly skilled team in Electro, Automation & Control, and close collaboration with engine and mechanical specialists.
An international environment with strong professional development opportunities.
Competitive salary, a common bonus scheme, good pension and insurance schemes, and flexible working hours.
The position is located at the company headquarters in Hordvikneset outside Bergen, Norway, and reports to the Manager Electro, Automation & Control.
Application due date 15 Nov 2026. Applicants will be evaluated on an ongoing basis.
